East Wood Valley

East Wood Valley is a famous golf and country Club in Miri. It has international standard golfing facilities and golfing area which are specially designed for golfer. In the club house, it has  50 metres long with 4 feet deep swimming pool which is entirely made of fiber glass. Jacuzzi is located beside the swimming pool which is surrounded by the beautiful flowers and breathtaking view of the lakeside provide the visitors a sensual experience. It also has the facilities of a well complete equipment of gymnasium room, sauna and steam bath (Indulges Your Senses – Kool Bar, 2010).

Moreover, East Wood Valley also has a grand ballroom for the public celebrating a joyous occasion and holds a conference meeting. Lakeside café and restaurant of the East Wood Valley serve fine dining and delicious international cuisine. There also have a hotel room which is designed in fusion of traditional Malaysian mixed with indigenous artisan for providing hotel room and suite service (Doze In Your Sacntuary, 2010).

Every week, I will go to East Wood Valley for swimming with my best friend to maimtain a healthy life and keep fit. An unforgettable memory in East wood is my scholarship award dinner at the grand ballroom in 2011. During that year too, I had attended a second Miri Tattoo Exhibition  there.

Gua Niah National Park

Niah National Park is located near to Sungai Niah which is about 3 kilometers from the small town of Batu Niah in Miri Srawak. The distance between Miri and Niah National Park is 110 kilometers. It is the smallest national park but it is one of the most important and has some of the most extraordinary visitor attractions.  It is  one of the main claims to fame that it is the birth place of civilization in the region. Niah Cave National Park is also one of the most significant archaeological sites in the world which has a the oldest modern human remains in South East Asia along with many others relics of prehistoric man which were discovered about 40, 000 years ago(Welcome To Gua Niah NP Page – Sarawak, n.d.).

Niah Cave National Park has a size of 3, 140 hectares of forest and limestone karst area had been gazetted as National Park in 1974 and open to the public in 1975. Local people also collect the guano which is the bird and bat droppings as a fertilizer, and also collect bird nest.  Visitors can access into the cave through a raised plank walk that winds through lowland forest which is surrounded by birds and butterflies. Besides that, visitors  can also  discover the richness of tropical rainforest, climbing  400m of tall limestone ridge or have a look at the Iban long house located near the national park boundary. Visitors also can choose to rent a boat or walk along the river from Niah National Park Headquarters to Batu Niah Town to explore more adventure experiences (Welcome To Gua Niah NP Page – Sarawak, n.d.).

In 2011, I had my first visitation to cave which is Niah Cave. I went with a few of my best friends and discovered more about the natural geological formation and living species of the cave. It is a good travel experiences.

Nightlife- Put Your Hands Up!

During night time, Miri is an urban party town which is full of entertainment. Several pubs, clubs and karaoke lounge such as Cheerie Berries Club, Balcony, Chaplins and Al Fresco that are located around Pelita Commercial Centre has the most happening nightlife (Entertainment In Miri, n.d.). Club is not only a drinking and dancing socialize place in Miri, it also stage live band performances for pop music enjoyment. Cheerie Berries is a famous club in Miri which has an entertain environment of drinking, dining, live band and dancing. Operation hours from 5pm-2am on Monday to Sunday (Entertainment In Miri, n.d.). Pool tables are also provided for the customers. Live band performances will not be available on Monday. The band name in the Cheerie Berries club is X-Appeal Band.

Every weekend, occasionally I will go clubbing with my friends at Cheerie Berries to release stress and relax after loads of assignment. Some of my friends also open bottles of liquor and wine to celebrate their birthday at Cheerie Berries Club. Clubbing is a socialize activity that enable us to meet new friends and hang out with buddies to share the joyous fun at that moment. From my experiences, listen to the different types of pop and techno music from the band in a club can comfort and soothe my depressed feeling when something miserable and unfortunate happened in my life.

One of the unforgettable memories is my 20 years old birthday party at Cheerie Berries Club. It is my first ever birthday party in my life and it is Hollywood theme. Around 30 people of my friends attended my birthday party and we celebrated by drinking alcohol, partying on the dance floor and enjoy performance of the favourite Philippines live band show till late night. That night, the band also sang a birthday song for me. Everytime after clubbing, we will always stop by the open air market to eat supper before we head for home.

In my personal opinion, I must go clubbing with my friends who have the same clubbing interest like me. Normally I  will go clubbing with my trusted friends and we will always take care of each other for safety purpose during partying time in a club.We must self behave properly in order not to get ourself into any troubles and avoid misbehaviour action in the club. Some actions that should not  be done  in the club are don’t block the staircase of the entrance, don’t yell and shout at the bartender when we order drink and don’t bump into people when walking in the crowd (7 Things You Should Never Do In A Club n.d.).

Miri has many sandy beaches. The beaches in Miri are Tanjung Loban Beach, Luak Bay Esplanade, Lutong Beach, Hawaii Beach, Trusan Beach, Piasau Beach and Bungai Beach. The long stretches of beaches in Miri are a popular weekend getaway.During my free time, I will always go to the beach to view breathtaking sunset and sunrise , chilling with friends and eating seafood. My first beach that I went in Miri is Tanjung Loban Beach. It is an oldest recreational park in Miri town which have golden sand and open air food market. Assorted seafood and fresh coconut juices can be found along the stalls at the open air market.There also have a children playground and barbeque area available for public enjoyment (Beaches In Miri, n.d.).

Luak Esplanade is a white sandy beach that is located 12km away from Miri town. This is a nice place where people go for a walk along the beach, picnic, barbeque, families outing whilst enjoying the lovely scenery of South China Sea especially during the time of sunrise and sunset . During the weekend, there will have a lot of food stalls that sell local delight, food and drinks along the street beside the beach (Beaches In Miri, n.d.). The beautiful sunset scene and windy sea breeze there help to calm my mind. Beach Republic is a nice place for the whole family to hangout near Luak Bay Esplanade. It has a café, basketball court and children swimming pool to fulfill the pleasure and enjoyment of the public.

Besides that, Tanjung Loban beach and Luak Bay Esplanade was a location spot for my individual and group assignment. I took gorgeous beach snapshot at the beach .Beautiful seaside scene and windy environment made my group need to take extra precaution of the broadcasting equipments and accomplished the duties in a short duration time when shooting at outdoor scene. This showed that teamwork and good communication skill is very important when doing group assignment.

Canada Hill with Love

Everything starts from here. A place that inspired me and changed my perception about the living environment in Miri is Canada Hill. It is also known as “Grand Old Lady”.  It is the first cable-tool oil well in Sarawak which developed the prosperous petroleum business in Miri. Canada Hill is 30 meters high. It is a potential tourist attraction where tourists can enjoy looking at the gorgeous view of Miri Town from the hill (William, 2011). Other attractions includes jogging path which stretches along its lush greenery  landscape and a bistro named Hazard is an ideal chilling spot for youngsters. Next to the Grand Old Lady is a petroleum museum which is a museum information centre of the joint venture between Sarawak, Petronas and Shell Malaysia. In 2005, the name of Canada Hills was changed to Bukit Telaga Minyak (William, 2011).

Canada Hill also is a romantic dating place for couples and recommended chilling place with friends. I have so much sweet memories with my buddies. We watch sunset together and having tea time at bistro. Besides that, one of the most unforgettable memories whenever I go there is one of my friend’s true love story. My friend confessed to his girlfriend at Canada Hill.

Before I came to Miri, I thought that Miri is a rural small town. In my opinion, many West Malaysian have a misconception about East Malaysia. They speculated that the main cities in East Malaysia are rural and lack of modern infrastructures. Nevertheless, my perception about Miri changed after my first visit to Canada Hill. The splendid skyline of Miri Town had mezmerised me.

MEri

Welcome everyone. My blog mainly talk about the travel experiences in Miri. I love to travel and been to many places around the world such as Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand,China and Macau. Every travel experience has a hidden personal story. The reason I choose Miri because I have a lot of memories and stories to share. Miri is also my current city where I studying Mass Communication and start to live independent when far away from home. 

What is "MEri" ? The words can be define as I want to be explore and be a part inside of Miri. It is a combination word of me and Miri.
